The short answer
Nissan is marking 40 years of the Pathfinder with a new 2027 Pathfinder Special Edition. It adds black-and-burgundy seats inspired by the original 1987 model, red exterior accents, black 20-inch wheels, a panoramic moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs and Bose audio. It starts at $47,390 MSRP with front-wheel drive and $49,390 with Intelligent AWD, plus a $1,575 destination charge. The 2027 Pathfinder reaches dealerships in November.
What the Special Edition adds
- Heritage interior: two-tone black and burgundy seats, a nod to the burgundy cloth seats in the 1987 original.
- Red accents outside: including red PATHFINDER lettering on the liftgate, with black 20-inch alloy wheels.
- Family comfort: a panoramic moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs and rear door sunshades.
- Bose audio: a 12-speaker premium sound system.
- Tow hitch receiver: with the hitch, Pathfinder is rated to tow up to 6,000 pounds, compared with 3,500 pounds standard.
Power comes from the same 3.5-liter V6 used across the Pathfinder lineup, rated at 284 horsepower and paired with a nine-speed automatic.

Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices, before the $1,575 destination charge:
- SV: $39,990 FWD · $41,990 4WD
- SL: $42,790 FWD · $44,790 4WD
- Rock Creek: $45,390 4WD
- Special Edition: $47,390 FWD · $49,390 4WD
- Platinum: $49,890 FWD · $51,890 4WD
Our take
The Special Edition is more than a sticker package. Captain’s chairs, a panoramic moonroof, rear sunshades and Bose sound are all things you notice on a long family drive, and the burgundy interior gives it a look you won’t see on every other three-row SUV. It’s priced between the SL and the Platinum, so it’s worth comparing all three side by side.
If you tow, the hitch is the detail to notice. Going from 3,500 to 6,000 pounds opens the door to a bigger boat or a small camper, which matters to a lot of families around here. Check your trailer’s weight before you buy, since actual capacity depends on how the vehicle is equipped.
